Coating Inspection Procedure & Qualifications

Painting Qualification Test (PQT)

Before work commences, all the selected coating/painting systems shall be applied on the test plates representative of the structure to be painted. The products used shall be sampled from the same batches than those intended for the works.

The system shall be applied in the presence of the Supplier of the paint and the Company representative, in climatic conditions that are as similar as possible to worst-case conditions that can be foreseen during the work on the construction site. The application shall be performed by the painting specialist who will be responsible for application during the work, using the same equipment that will be used during the work.
When the painting systems are fully cured, visual inspection and adhesion testing shall be carried out to confirm that the performance of the painting systems meets those specified for each system

Inspection test plan (ITP)

An inspection test plan, including all the checkpoints, shall be prepared and submitted to Company / Client.

The Inspection Test Plan shall clearly indicate the frequency of testing for each check.

Throughout the duration of the work, the Contractor’s Quality Control department shall check the following points and record the results in its daily quality control report.

  • Construction quality
  • Surface preparation quality
  • Contamination
  • Climatic conditions for application all measured before the work commences and twice per shift and when the ambient conditions are obviously changing)
  • State of curing
  • The wet film thickness of each coat immediately after application.
  • Number of coats, DFT of each coat and of the final system
  • Appearance and color.
  • Adherence
  • Visual inspection
Coating Inspection Procedure & Qualifications:Procedures / Work Procedure / Standard operating procedures (SOPs) are step-by-step instructions that act as guidelines for employee work processes. Whether written up in numbered steps or formatted as flow charts, effective SOPs are complete, clearly written, and based on input from the workers who do the job. Finally, these procedures approve by Clint/consultant/owner/government body.  When employees follow the SOP for a particular job, they produce a product that is consistent and predictable.

If creativity is key to your business functions, SOPs may not work for you. Strict adherence to standardized rules can restrict creative flow. However, if your goal is to produce the same product over the long term and increase your business productivity, the implementation of SOPs can have many benefits.

Proper procedures and work instructions provide a way to communicate and apply consistent standards and practices within your organization.

    Right procedures. . .

    • Save time and mistakes
    • Reduce training costs
    • Ensure consistent results
    • Empower the workforce
    • Get, read and used
    • Support quality goals
    • Enable you to delegate work

But, Wrong procedures, can be as disastrous as no procedures at all!

    Wrong procedures. . .

    • Cause errors and frustration
    • Increase training costs
    • Waste time and money
    • Detract from quality goals
    • Don’t get read or used

if It’s the wrong procedures out there that are the problem, and we’ve probably seen more SOP documents than anyone on the project. Unfortunately, there are a whole lot of badly written, hard-to-understand, and frankly, boring documents, a copy of the previous project, but day by day technology and skill are improving hence implementing a Right procedure for your project is a good dissection,
We’re on a mission to change all that, our high skill management team provides a suitable Procedure, that saves you time and cost, we approve these procedures from the client, we provide a work procedure for clients all so for their work contractor.

Paint Application Test & Painter Qualification:

Pre-qualification of paint products is an essential factor in construction industries, the requirements for pre-qualification prior to use is applied to the coating system after application tests shall be carried out on 5 mm thick steel panels of a type in accordance with

ISO 1514. With Reference to ASTM D 823 and ISO 1513.

    • Each paint/coating (batch-wise) product to be qualified shall be identified by the following:
    • An infrared scan (fingerprint).
    • The specific gravity of base and curing agent (ref ISO 2811).
    • Ash content (ASTM D1650), volatile and non-volatile matters (ISO 1515) of each component.

The above standards are part of Coating Inspection Procedure & Qualifications.

    Qualification of paint operators:

We qualified painters & spray painter in accordance with the tradesman level as blast cleaner, painter, applicator, we train relevant knowledge of paint mixing, paint application, health and safety hazard, coating materials, use of protective equipment.

We conduct paint Tests on a test panel (minimum 1 x 1 m) containing at least 1 pipe end, 2 pipes, 1 angle, and 1 flat bar. Alternatively, a location providing similar geometrical complexity of the component to be coated may be used.

The acceptance criteria and variation in the film thickness shall be within the limits described in the

Coating System Data Sheet as supplied by the coating manufacturer

Qualification of paint supervisors and QC personnel

We trained paint supervisor and paint inspectors as per requirement and Personnel carrying out inspection or verification shall be qualified in accordance with NS- 476 (Inspector level), NACE (inspector certificate level III), or equivalent.

    Heat Shrink Sleeve Procedure Qualification:

The right choice of which type of sleeve to use on a project, quality of the sleeves was an important factor. Pipelines are constructed under a variety of conditions; onshore, offshore, cold climates, hot climates, and even hostile environments. Recommendations are made based on pipeline environmental and geographical construction conditions along with consideration of operating and in-service performance requirements.

Properly specified and applied heat-shrinkable sleeves can provide corrosion and mechanical protection that is equal to or superior to the mainline coating, be it tape, epoxy, or multi-layer polyolefin.

HSS procedure and its qualification are an essential factor in cross pipeline & offshore pipeline industries, the requirements for procedure qualification prior to supply material, and its application and applicator.

    • Heat Shrink Sleeve Procedure:
    • Sleeve Material Mechanical Test.
    • Epoxy Paint chemical property verification.
    • Application procedure establishment and peel test.

    Qualification of HSS Operator:

We qualified HSS Operator in accordance with the tradesman level as blast cleaner, painter, applicator, we train relevant knowledge of paint mixing, paint application, and sleeve applicator, health and safety hazard, coating materials, use of protective equipment.

We conduct HSS applicator Test on a test sample of 3 pipes, and test carried out as per HSS coating standard. Our team assists you completely with HSS procedure qualification and HSS operator’s Qualification.
